The Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild sets Winter Dinner date

Picture
Save the date for this year's Winter Dinner, Saturday, December 5, 2020. We will have a unique and entertaining program that will be delivered to your home through your television or computer.

We are asking for friends and patrons of the Philharmonic and the Guild to organize small gatherings in their homes to take part in the festivities. Some are making it a neighborhood block party. Others are inviting business associates and friends. Some are enjoying the program with close family.
However you choose to celebrate, we ask that you share your love for music as well as the opportunity for others to give to our campaign to help our Philharmonic gain the necessary funds to begin producing concerts as soon as it is safe to commence. The Phil intends to make a dynamic comeback. We hope you will be a part of the story that returns live, symphonic music to Colorado Springs.

Our September Program was a pleasure! And well attended.

Our first Guild function of the season was a resounding success. Thanks again to Gold Hill Mesa for hosting us. What an incredible set up. Great indoor/outdoor space and a beautiful, big green lawn to gaze at. The music, performed by the Marc Neihof Trio was excellent. Our food and wine, outstanding.
We look forward to our October program, coming up Wednesday, October 21, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club, 9 Lake Avenue, Colorado Springs. For all the details and to RSVP, please read the September newsletter here.

As we regroup as a new board, and with the hurdles before us, we are taking a break. We will be back, stronger than ever, in August.

No Peaches: squeezing the already altered monetary goal for the Philharmonic

Due to a freeze on the western slope, our vendor, which has supplied us with beautiful Palisade Peaches for several years, is unable to participate in this year's Peachy Party. We are disappointed, of course, as this seemed like one of the only "events" that we were going to be able to produce.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We know how our Guild members look forward to having that case of peaches to make a myriad of dishes. Here's hoping that next year's will be all the sweeter.

President role split between two Guild members

The role of president for the Colorado Springs Guild will be shared for the 2020/2021 season between two dynamic women. Lisa Keenan, Grants Manager at UCHealth, will share the role with Joy Maples, a public relations professional with her own small business, doing work in the tourism and non profit sectors.

Both women bring tremendous talent to the Guild and we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish "against all odds"....

The tactics for fundraising within the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild have been traditionally event-based. With the pandemic, this will alter the group's general fund raising plan. These two are undeterred and look forward to the challenge that the year will bring. The board is fully invested and aware of the hurdles that await them and are doing the work of exploring alternative tactics for raising money for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. You can help now by renewing your membership. We need a strong membership this year to ensure a successful year. We also need "all hands on deck" as we form committees to tackle the job ahead of us. Be thinking creatively. We look forward to meeting--in one form or another--in the Fall. At that time we will provide information on how you can be a part of this year's effort. We will also have a vote on a budget for the year and, hopefully, we will have more information to be able to navigate the year's plan effectively.

The Guild's May issue of our electronic newsletter is now available. We have a new board of directors, and as a Guild we have raised and donated $40,000 to the Philharmonic. Thank you to all of our members for your involvement in the Guild and for making this year--even though it ended abruptly--successful. We look forward to next year and hope that our time of social distancing and not meeting will come to an end soon.

Philharmonic News Release: Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild donates $40,000

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild donated $40,000 to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic in support of the Take a Stand Recovery and Musician Relief campaign.

“We are proud to be part of the Take a Stand Campaign. In the midst of COVID -19 crisis our music community was hit particularly hard and the Guild is glad to be able to contribute $40,000. We wish it could have been more, but we had to cancel our major fundraiser this year due to the virus,” said Hope Mena, President of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild.

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild is an important auxiliary group that holds a variety of fundraising events every year in support of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and is the largest single volunteer contributor to the non-profit. Fundraising by the Guild from the 2019-20 Concert Season was earmarked for the Take a Stand Campaign.

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Take a Stand fundraising campaign aims to raise $344,000 to offset payroll costs for musicians through July 31 due to canceled concerts. Funds raised will help extend the Philharmonic’s future while standing by musicians, who at this time are struggling to make ends meet.

“This gift from the Philharmonic Guild is a lifeline and a ringing endorsement of our beloved orchestra,” said Nathan Newbrough, President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. “We are grateful, one and all, for our dear friends in the Philharmonic Guild. With their support, we are more determined than ever to face the challenges of this crisis.”

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic is the pre-eminent symphony orchestra in Southern Colorado Springs and relies on the generosity of its patrons and ticket sales to more than 40 performances in a single season.

“The near- and long-term impacts of the Covid-19 crisis are taking their toll, however we’re resilient. Thanks to our wonderful patrons we are able to stand firm,” said Newbrough. “We are staying true to our ticketholders – exchanging their unused tickets for vouchers – and standing behind our contracted musicians, who are receiving their base salary through the end of the concert season, even though concerts are canceled. We can only do this with the steadfast support of our audience and friends, who believe so passionately in the importance of a great Philharmonic for our community.”

Guild April newsletter: In this time of staying home and social distancing

4/14/2020

Our programs are cancelled. Our Spring Fundraiser is cancelled, which, by the way was on track to be a great success: fun for our membership and good for the coffers. Maybe it's a program we can hold for next year.

For an organization focused on live music; on gathering together to listen to concerts, to socialize and raise money for music--which we hold dear to us, this has hit us all hard. While we are grateful for our members health and strength through this, it has put a big damper on our abilities to support live music.

Here is our April "e" newsletter, including a letter from President Hope Mena. We hope you will join us in remembering our musicians at this time, and continuing to support the Guild through your renewed membership and commitment to support the programs and efforts of our organization. We miss you.

As a Guild, we joined the organization to meet with and enjoy other people who enjoy the same things as we do! In this new season of social distancing, let's stay in touch. We have our Facebook page (CS Philharmonic Guild), so if you have an idea or a program to share, don't be shy. And we have created a page of things to do to keep your mind sharp and engaged as we wait this out for the greater good. Enjoy.
