Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild monthly email newsletter January 2020
At the beginning of a new decade, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild is in a great position to become a leader in the support of music in our city. It has been a joy to see how the Guild has grown and played a part in the various fundraising activities that support the CS Philharmonic and Youth Symphony. We produced three great fundraising activities this past fall. They Nutcracker Boutique was a huge success thanks to a host of volunteers under the direction of co-chairs Cheryl Schwartz and Sharon Schneider. The Wiley Skaret Concerts and the Holiday event at the Broadmoor rounded out our fundraising events for the fall. It was nice to just enjoy each other's company at the Christmas Party in December with no other agenda but to celebrate the season. Thanks to the fun of that evening, we added four new members to our organization. The focus now is the spring fundraiser, a Kentucky Derby Party at the Penrose Event Center. Lisa Keenan has stepped up to chair that function and she and the committee have many great ideas for the May 2nd event. I am sure that Kentucky Bourbon will play a part in the festivities. I wish all of our members and supporters a Happy and Prosperous New Year and thank all of you for supporting the Guild. Most sincerely, Hope Mena Guild Board President Buy tickets for upcoming Philharmonic performances happening in January

Guild Outreach to Youth Symphony underway: Winners will perform in February
Chair Deron Hickman reports that the competition for the Guild scholarships for Youth Symphony students is underway. Competition takes place soon and the top four finishers will delight Guild members with a live performance on Wednesday, February 19 (RSVP here). We want to publicly thank members Dennis Keegan and Laurent Carrier for their ongoing support of our Youth Outreach program through our Young Soloist Competition. Because of their generous support (and last year's impromptu call-out of other members to join in supporting the program) our young winners will receive: 1st place $1500, 2nd place $1000; 3rd place $750 and 4th place, $500. All monies are deposited into the young musicians' account at the Youth Symphony and pay for expenses associated with their burgeoning careers. We are thankful to our membership and to the following for their generous donations: Dennis Keegan, Laurent Carrier, Dr. Victor and Mary Thacker, Alice Marie Thomas, and Marilyn Miller.
